1000 Islands Music Festival – Day 2 – Aug 14 2009 – Simple Plan, Arietta, New Cities, Faber Drive, Stereos, Plain White T’s, Warped 45’s, Latency, We are the take.
Arietta opened Day 2 of the 1000 Islands Music Festival on Friday August 14 2009, followed on the Main Stage by bands such as Walk off the earth, The New Cities, Faber Drive, The Stereos, Plain White T’s, and headlining act Simple Plan. The side stage included acts by, We are The Take, The Warped 45’s, and NLX. The Entire Festival was hosted by Randy, and Mr. Lahey, from the Showcase hit series The Trailer Park Boys.
Attendance climbed to about 1000 screaming and adoring fans that had crowded the front of the Main stage for the most part of the day waiting for headliners Simple Plan to take the stage. The low attendance at the festival was definitely not a disappointment. It was more of a crowd pleaser, as it made the concert atmosphere more intimate, and provided a lot more interaction between the fans and the artists.
Seamless timing between the Main Stage, and the Side Stage meant a lot of running back and forth, and with the blistering sun boiling down overhead, I found myself making intermittent stops by the first aid tent to get a little shade, and water. The side stage had a photo pit that was only accessible to artists, and their friends from backstage. The small groups of fans at the side stage made it very easy to get access to the front of the stage, so photography wasn’t a problem. Again, like with Day 1, I used my 70-200 f/2.8 for most of the show. On the Main Stage, headliners Simple plan, had moved the monitors, and brought out some boxes to jump up on, so my wide angle 18mm made it’s first appearence on Day 2.
